Rattan (originated from a Malay word - Rotan) is technically a tree, although it grows like a vine along the ground. They are usually found in the tropical regions of Africa, Asia and Australia. The rattan vines are cut and peeled, then steamed to make them pliable, and then they are used as rattan weaving materials. Rattan furniture can be made of stripes of Rattan that are woven together when the wood is wet. It can also be strips of Bamboo or other materials woven around straight rattan slats. Rattan easily accepts paints and stains like many other kinds of wood, so it is available in many colors and it can be worked into many styles.
There are lots of styles of deck furniture that you can find in teak. A common layout for many people is one with basic chairs and a sofa, but you can also choose from lots of other options that are just as creative or more so, like patio swings, chaise lounges, and tables that are both aesthetically beautiful and useful.
Rattan is a more affordable building material compared to iron and teak. By nature, it is a very tough material. Only with intense heating can it be used as a material for creating furniture. It is flexible enough to take on any shape. Usually, rattan is used with iron, wood or plastic. These materials serve as the solid frame for the cane. The cane is bent over and around these frames, and when cooled, takes on the shape and form of the frame. As rattan is abundantly available, the cost of producing such furniture is low. Hence, it's easier for furniture retailers to make a good profit from such furniture.
