Chairs are greatly varied that it will be difficult to enumerate all of them. There are chairs used for a specific sport, or a specific place. But for starters, the more common types are the ones we see at home and at work. One of these is a rocking chair. It is also called "rocker" because it moves back and forth to rock the user. It has two curved or arched bands of wood at the bottom, one attached on the two left legs and the other one is attached on the two right legs. The chair starts to rock back and forth when the user shifts weight or gently pushes the chair with his weight. It also rocks by itself when a user sits on it until the center of gravity is achieved hence giving the user a comfortable sitting position.
No longer are chair manufacturers making dining chairs that are straight backed with slats that were so common decades ago. Some of these modern dining chairs are actually lovely enough to be pieces of art. Why would someone hide a piece of art such as modern dining chairs under a table where they cannot be seen.
One other thing to think about: will you buy this furniture as a long-term investment, or more to dress up or change your space, perhaps for the short-term? If contemporary styling suits you and you want contemporary chairs as a long-term investment, consider sleek, timeless lines. You may pay a little more for well constructed, designer or designer-inspired pieces, but you'll be happy with them for years to come.
