As more and more newer designs come out, and the selection becoming more varied, it is good to back to the basics in choosing a chair. Consider the weight, size, stack ability, durability, maintenance and artistic design. Chairs are matched according to use. They are made specifically for different purposes. The chairs seen at home are generally more relaxed and laid back. They usually come in varied colors and designs. On the other hand, chairs seen in the office are expected to be more formal, stiff and often in earth colors.
People work in offices must have exceptionally well-made chairs because of the extended time they spend sitting in them. Especially in today's driven workplaces, where working late has more or less become the norm, a good chair design is one that can keep the employee sitting comfortably, even after extended hours of usage. The new buzz word and shared as is ergonomics. That's just a fancy word that means that while the chair is comfortable, it also provides the proper back support.
You won't find many overstuffed pieces, clawfoot legs, or Mission-style woodwork on these chairs. While not quite minimalist in design, a contemporary chair doesn't have anything on it to detract from the appreciation of its basic design.
